Bronze Sculptures of Stations of the Cross

Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church has acquired one of two sets of bronze sculptures of Stations of the Cross, created by Italian artist Federico Severino. The artist was commissioned in 2009 by the Chapter of Canons of the Roman Catholic Church to create the sculptures to commemorate the 1,400th anniversary of the dedication to Christianity of the Basilica of the Pantheon. One set was installed in the Rotunda of the Pantheon in Rome, and the second has been in storage, never seen by the public. Through Saint Michael parishioner, Richard Finlay, now deceased, and his daughter Laura Finlay Smith, Saint Michael’s was offered the 14-piece sculpture on a long-term loan for display in its church.

The sculpture will be installed at Saint Michel and All Angels during the first week in February and a public unveiling from 5 to 7 p.m. is planned for February 6.  This is an acquisition of major importance for Saint Michael, the City of Dallas, and the art community.
