Pathway to Ordination: New Materials
    Dear Colleagues and Friends,

After a thorough process of working with Bishop Sumner on his priorities for recruiting and discerning vocations to Holy Orders, we’re excited to announce that our new Pathway to Holy Orders is finally complete. Along with a new outline of the discernment process, we’ve also generated new materials:
    1. A new booklet for those interesting in discerning their own vocation, titled “Hearing the Call", and
    2. Significantly more materials to help our Parish Committees on Discernment (PCOVs) and the Commission on Ministry (COM) understand not only the bishop’s approach and priorities, but also guidance on how to think about the work of discernment, and what exactly it is we’re trying to discern!
All of this is done in accordance with Bishop Sumner’s emphasis on building-up the members of the Body of Christ in their vocation of being “the salt of the earth” (Mt 5:13), a “spiritual house… a holy priesthood” (1 Pet 1:13; Ex 19:6). As always, please be on the lookout for the callings of all your parishioners to deepening faith and dynamic ministry, and especially for those you think might be our future catechists, evangelists, deacons, and priests. And please don’t forget to plant the clerical bug in your acolytes' ears! Some of them may be called to preach and stand at that altar themselves, or to go forth in radical ministry to the least and the lost. As you well know, you can be the one to jump-start them down their own path to Holy Orders.

Parish priests and administrators, please take note: Some important details and aspects of the process have changed from our practice of recent years, so please be sure to review these closely. The PCOV process has been greatly developed, and some of the forms have changed significantly.

Should you have any questions or thoughts, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

I remain faithfully yours in Christ Jesus,
    Jeremy Bergstrom+
    Canon for Vocations
