The Gypsy Quilters at Holy Trinity in Garland

Our parish sponsors a quilting group called the Gypsy Quilters who gather in the parish hall every Wednesday morning to work on personal projects, but they also make quilts for charitable purposes - e.g.: they sent quilts over to California to those dispossessed from their homes during the recent wildfires, they gave us quilts to take along when we went on mission to the Lakota Sioux and Chippewa Reservations in North Dakota and we donated them to the churches we supported, to distribute among their parishioners.

Today the Gypsy Quilters went to Patriot Paws and donated quilts to the Veteran's House where disabled vets stay while they are being trained and paired with a service dog.  They presented a quilt for each branch of the service (5 including Coast Guard), and also donated some military-themed pillow cases, table  runners and hanging quilts they had made.

Patriot Paws is the organization supported by the annual charity Golf tournament put on by the  Dallas Assembly of the Brotherhood of St Andrew.  (more info at the link:  http://www.brothersandrewdallas.org/brotherhood-dallas/2020-patriotpaws-golf-tournament-is-on-the-horizon/)

One of Holy Trinity's parishioners, Silvia Yetts, who works as a volunteer dog trainer put on a demonstration for the ladies with a Golden Retriever named Nugget, showing what these dogs can do. They learn over 50 commands and then when paired with a veteran, the dog's training is tuned to the veteran's particular needs.

Holy Trinity's facebook page and Patriot Paws facebook page both provide pictures of the presentations.  Lori Stevens, the CEO of Patriot Paws was moved to tears - she shared that her mom was also a quilter.  She said she is going to name one of the dogs in training, Gypsy, in honor of this group's efforts supporting our disabled veterans.
