An Evening with Dr. Paul Avis

This event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., January 23 at Canterbury House, 3308 Daniel Avenue in Dallas.

    Dear Friends,

I am very glad to invite you to spend an evening with Dr. Paul Avis, one of the Anglican Communion's foremost scholars of ecclesiology and a renowned ecumenist.  Dr. Avis will speak with us about the challenge that ecclesiology poses today: in a divided church, an apparent impossibility, but one made possible by grace.  This will be an informal gathering at the Canterbury House with plenty of time for conversation.  We will be joined by Dr. Christopher Wells, editor-in-chief of The Living Church and an active ecumenist, who will offer an informal response and help kick off our discussion.

The Rev. Dr. Paul Avis is Honorary Professor at the University of Durham and editor-in-chief of the journal Ecclesiology.  The author of many books, including The Identity of Anglicanism: Essentials of Anglican Ecclesiology and The Vocation of Anglicanism, Avis is widely recognized as one of the world's leading authorities on Anglican ecclesiology and history.  Fr. Avis is a true scholar-priest, having written most of his books while serving for over twenty years as a parish priest in the Diocese of Exeter.

Clergy are especially invited to attend, but all interested are welcome to join us.  If you are able, please RSVP to Laura Faulkner ( ).  Light refreshments will be provided.  Please feel free to forward to members of your congregations in particular.  Anyone who wants to learn more about the nature of the Church and our Anglican identity will benefit immensely from hearing in person from one of the world's leading authorities on the subject.

There is a limited amount of parking available at Canterbury House.  More parking is available just down the street in Snider Plaza, or street parking along Rosedale and Athens in the neighborhood north and east of Canterbury House.  The SMU parking garage on Daniel Ave. may be available depending on SMU event scheduling.

If you have any questions, please contact me at the Diocesan office.

    Faithfully,

    The Rev. Canon Jordan Hylden

    Canon Theologian
