Cathedral Arts Presents Cliburn Top Finalist Fei-Fei Dong
Dallas, Texas, October 28, 2017 – St. Matthew’s Cathedral Arts proudly launches its new Distinguished Artists Recitals on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 7:30 pm in the Great Hall, with a performance by pianist Fei-Fei Dong, winner of the 2014 Concert Artists Guild Competition and a top finalist at the 14th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
In preparing for this inaugural event, H. Michie Akin, Artistic Director of Cathedral Arts, writes, “Cathedral Arts is expanding and improving the quality of its musical offerings. The recent acquisition of a magnificent Schimmel concert grand piano increases options for hosting solo piano concerts, vocal and instrumental recitals, chamber music events, and even some fine jazz evenings. The remarkable pianist Fei-Fei Dong will usher in a new era of music at Cathedral Arts, and we are honored and excited to present this very special event.”
Born in Shenzhen, China, Fei-Fei began piano lessons at the age of 5. She moved to New York to study at The Juilliard School, where she earned her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees under the guidance of Yoheved Kaplinsky. Deeply committed to sharing her joy for music and connecting with communities, Fei-Fei also engages students and community audiences through frequent school and outreach concerts and master classes. Praised for her “bountiful gifts and passionate immersion into the music she touches” (The Plain Dealer), Fei-Fei Dong continues to build a reputation for her poetic interpretations, charming audiences with her “passion, piquancy and tenderness” and “winning stage presence” (Dallas Morning News). Fei-Fei Dong is represented by Concert Artists Guild, New York. Admission and parking are free, and donations are welcomed. A reception for the artist follows immediately in the Justus Sundermann Gallery.
As a center for the arts in Old East Dallas, St. Matthew’s Cathedral Arts revives an ancient tradition of cathedral churches in proclaiming the presence of God through the beauty of human creativity, bringing vitality to St. Matthew’s Cathedral, our neighborhood and greater Dallas.
