Children's Summer Food Program Needs Volunteers

06.08.16 | by Dabney Dwyer

Summer Food Service program sponsored by the USDA is a national program ensuring that low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. This summer, USDA plans to serve more than 200 million free meals to children 18 year and under throughout the United States.

Diocesan parishes can find the location of summer food programs in their neighborhood. Just click on the link below and locate the first tab on the left “find a site”. You will be able to enter an address or zip code to locate programs near your parish or partner school.

Because most of the programs are implemented by a variety of nonprofits and faith-based organizations, there is often a need for volunteers to helps serve meals and offer some programs (i.e. playing games, sports or art projects).
