Farewell Letter
It is with mixed emotions that I sit here and contemplate my farewell message to our beloved diocese. On the one hand, there is a certain melancholy as I anticipate life without our friends and church family. Over the years we have been richly blessed by our time with each of you and will continue to carry that blessing with us as we take the next step in our journey. I have always fancied myself as a “people person” and as such derived energy and fulfillment from my relationships and am a bit saddened by knowing that I will not have that unique and special relationship with the good people of the Diocese of Dallas.
On the other hand, I am experiencing a sense of joy and fulfillment as Sally and I look forward to our next chapter in life. I am joyful because of the many, many blessings I have received from my ministry among you. Words cannot adequately express our gratitude for all that the clergy and parishioners have provided us. This is a strong and unique diocese and I pray that you will continue to be an example to the whole Church Catholic by your witness and proclamation of the Good News of God in Christ Jesus.
I am fulfilled because I believe I have done all that God has given me to do in this place. I am pleased by the renewed collegiality of the clergy and pray it continues in very intentional ways. Our Latino Ministries are flourishing and the clergy are taking seriously their role as leaders within the diocese. They have worked very hard and we are beginning to see the fruits of their labor. Camp All Saints under the leadership of David Campbell and the Board of Advisors are playing an integral role in providing a place for new disciples to be made. It is my hope you will continue to support their efforts in every way. These are only a few of the many things we have accomplished together and there are many more that merit mentioning. But alas, space is of the essence and I am sorry not to mention each by name.
Thank you all so very much for the opportunity to serve among you as your friend and as your Bishop Suffragan. Be assured of my continued prayers for this family of God and the good work you will continue to do. May God bless and keep you and may the light of his countenance shine upon you always.
In Christ,
+Paul
Bishop Suffragan
