Join Bishop Michael Smith for 12 weeks beginning Monday, February 22 for an introductory course on the spiritual practice of Lectio Divina or the “sacred reading” of Scripture. Our guide through this journey will be Father Basil Pennington via his book, Lectio Divina: Renewing the Ancient Practice of Praying the Scriptures. Pennington describes Lectio Divina as “the art of letting God, our Divine Friend, speak to us through the inspired Word.”

Traditionally, this has involved the four steps of lectio (reading), meditatio (reflecting), oratio (responding in prayer), and contemplatio (resting in God’s presence). Participants in the course will discuss these steps and, using the Gospel reading for the coming Sunday, join in the group practice of this spiritual discipline via Zoom.
