SMAA Launches $60 Million Capital Campaign
Dallas-based Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church (“Saint Michael”) is launching a historic capital campaign that will fund necessary enhancements to its nearly 78-year-old campus, as well as create an enhanced design for community outreach that fosters unity and spiritual growth. The “Building our Future” capital campaign goal is set at $60 million, and 89% of that goal has been raised in the leadership phase of the campaign.
The community phase of the campaign kicked off with a jubilant announcement during worship services on September 24, with the campaign set to continue into early 2024. The campaign will fund three phases of updates through remodel, construction, and beautification efforts that will commence in January 2024 and conclude in September 2026. The project will upgrade decades-old infrastructure and maximize the parish’s physical footprint to enable Saint Michael to serve as a welcoming place for the community for generations to come. Through renovations and expansions, the parish will create new gathering spaces, enhance classrooms, and beautify the main sanctuary. In addition, new garden and green spaces will be available for the whole community to enjoy.
“We have an unprecedented opportunity to begin the next chapter of Saint Michael’s legacy and energize our church for the future,” says the Rev. Dr. Christopher D. Girata, Rector of Saint Michael. “This campaign is an investment in our call to follow Jesus and ensure those who come seeking God at Saint Michael will be transformed by the power of the Spirit now and for generations to come.”
This building project is part of a larger plan to increase Saint Michael’s impact in the community. In 2020, Saint Michael received approval to lease a portion of its campus to Lincoln Property Company, and the majority of the land lease income will be used to generate significant outreach grants. These grants will grow each year and Saint Michael will direct them to Dallas-area agencies and ministries that align with the guiding pillars of Saint Michael’s All Angels Foundation: Discipleship (volunteerism), Sustainability (educational access and food insecurity), and Reconciliation (housing, youth, and racial justice).
Beck Architecture will lead this church project of more than 59,000 square feet. The final design will include construction of a new atrium, parish hall, indoor play spaces, and community gathering spots such as a café. Learn more at www.saintmichael.org/capital-campaign/.
