Students Spend Spring Break Helping Tornado Victims
Fifteen students from Minnesota State University at Mankato, volunteered to work Habitat for Humanity projects in the tornado destruction zone, in Garland. They arrived safely on Sunday night and are sleeping in Holy Trinity Garland's parish hall for the week. They are neat kids who paid their way to come all the way down here to work in our community instead of relax on some beach during their spring break.
Their meals are being prepared by various chapters of the Brotherhood of St Andrew: (St Andrew's, Farmers Branch, Epiphany, Richardson, St Michael And All Angels, Dallas, Holy Trinity by the Lake, Heath, Holy Trinity, Garland and the "Mary-Martha's" of Holy Trinity Garland have all pitched in to help).
The students are scheduled to spend three days working in the destruction zone and two days on a Habitat for Humanity build site. On Wednesday afternoon, they will be treated to a visit to the Patriot Paws Service Dog training facility and learn about the ministry to our disabled veterans (training and providing service dogs to veterans free of charge). Wednesday night, Holy Trinity, Garland's congregation will fete the students with a special potluck supper to show their appreciation.
Holy Trinity, Garland will also host the Quarterly Meeting of the Dallas Assembly of the Brotherhood of St Andrew on Saturday, 12 March at 8:30 am. Bishop Stanton will be the guest speaker. This will be the last time the MSU students will break bread with us before they drive back home.
The Dallas Assembly will be sending a reminder about the quarterly meeting to all chapters to encourage an RSVP so we can estimate how much food to prepare. You are encouraged to come out on Saturday to hear Bishop Stanton speak and to thank the MSU students for all that they have done for our community. A prompt reply is appreciated - so let us know if you plan to attend. Please RSVP at
