The Giving Tree

    Dear Brothers and Sisters,

This year the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas churches are invited to give a Christmas gift to children and youth in Dallas that will provide for those living in poverty all year-round.

*Right now, 89% of students in the Dallas Independent School District are living in food insecure homes.

    * 9 out of 10 of our DISD students do not know where their next meal will come from.

*Statistics show that February has the highest eviction notices for DFW because parents forego paying rent so that their children can have a Christmas.

Will you consider hosting a Giving Tree at your parish this Christmas?

A Giving Tree is a Christmas tree that is decorated with child sponsorship brochures for South Dallas children and youth living in poverty. The child sponsorship covers Christmas toys, food, year-round mentoring, summer camps, and a ten-step path to college. ($1 per day/ $30 a month)

If you are willing, The Episcopal Diocese of Dallas and the Dallas Champions Academy will place a small/ medium size Christmas tree in a public space at your parish. The tree will be decorated with child sponsorship brochures to support under-served South Dallas Children and youth this Christmas. Our hope is that every parish will have 20 parishioners who want to be sponsors.

Will you be a host of a Giving Tree?

Please contact Canon Carrie Headington at or call 903-399-3230. If you will host a Giving Tree, we will come to you and place the tree for you and pick it up after January 6.

Let’s come together to help our local children in poverty.

    Yours in Christ,

Carrie Headington, Canon Evangelist, Episcopal Diocese of Dallas

    Jennifer Smith, Deacon, At- Large

Darell Smith, Director, Dallas Champions Academy
