Holy Monday: Liturgy of Lament, Repentance and Consolation

The Episcopal Diocese of Dallas offered several Holy Monday services aimed to lament the violence and hatred that has come to define our common life in this country. The diocese offered such services after Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe wrote about the idea in his Ash Wednesday letter. Rowe has heavily emphasized the theme of lament as a crucial spiritual practice for the Church to address violence, division and despair.

Bishop Rob Price gave the mediation at St. Matthew's Cathedral in Dallas focusing on the lesson from Nehemiah 9:1, 6-23, 26-37. St. Andrew's in McKinney also offered a Holy Monday service as did St. Luke's in Dallas and St. Dunstan's in Mineola. The service at St. Dunstan's grew out of an intercessory prayer group that had already been meeting regularly to pray for the nation.
