"What is Truth"
The words are Pilate’s, and were spoken in cynicism. To be sure, the question can and must be asked in earnest. For we believe that, ultimately, to find it is to find evidence of God, as St. Augustine insisted.
We live, however, in an age of technologically driven disinformation, whose goal is confusion and manipulation. This force has conspired with the anti-scientism, which has a longer history in our nation.
What is new is that those tasked with disseminating information are now contributing to that confusion. I am not saying that the scientific community has never erred, but this is no excuse for undercutting trustworthy information by means of the aforementioned cynicism.
So this is most assuredly true- the measles vaccine is very safe and very effective (97%).
While Robert Kennedy, secretary of HHS in the Trump administration, begrudgingly recommended the vaccine (after touting vitamin A and cod liver oil) he proceeded to sow doubt….Most recently he has called for funding the search for alternative treatments (which has bern tried, and has failed in the past): I thought we were trying to reduce federal waste. Recent polling shows confusion over vaccines has increased. Kennedy’s false claim that the vaccine has fetal debris can only increase this confusion.
Children are unnecessarily sick in Texas, nearby, and elsewhere. We as Christians who live and minister here should have a care for them. People have free speech, but in our entrusted leaders foolishness can be culpable,
