    South Dallas COVID-19 Response Update

The Corona Virus continues to impact North Texas and it is especially impacting South Dallas residents living in poverty. The Episcopal Diocese of Dallas, through our ongoing EDOD PROJECT US: Unite and Serve, is partnering with the Greater Dallas Coalition to serve the hungry in the Southern Sector of Dallas.

This has been a busy week of need and generosity!

Meat has been especially hard to find as some meat processing companies have had to close. In response, former rector of Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Dallas, Rev. Will Brown, reached out to his friend and hunting partner, Chris Landers who is Co-Chair of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation. Mr. Lander’s placed a call to the Dallas hunting community to donate food. As a result, over 300 pounds of elk and deer meat were given to our Greater Dallas Coalition partners who are feeding people on the streets and giving meat to families to cook at home. Additionally, Mr. Lander’s has called all hunters to shoot hogs and has asked Kuby’s restaurant and speciality grocery store in Dallas, to help process the meat. This partnership between the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas and Chris Lander’s is a great blessing. We look forward to hunting season when we know more meat will come. These hunters are feeding many.

Also this week…because of the  generous support individual donations from across  the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas, we have been able to deliver 600 chickens this week to the Metropolitan Dream Center and 3 local churches food pantries. The Episcopal Diocese of Dallas individual donors has also  funded the distribution of food boxes of 50 pounds each to 600 families at Victory Outreach Church, which will occur this Saturday.

Bishop Sumner is grateful for the many people who have contributed to helping those in need at this time. He is encouraged and inspired by the many parishes who are caring for those in their zip codes and beyond.
