Salt and Light Challenge

Editor's Note: Below is a letter from the Rev. Leslie Stewart to her congregation, Resurrection in Plano, about sharing love during Lent.

We're in the midst of Epiphany, which means a dawning, a new light, a new day.

Over the last few Sundays, I've talked about the Salt and Light Challenge. I have to admit, handing out envelopes of money to folks last week was pretty exhilarating.

The idea is simple. Use the cash from your envelope to spread your light to someone else. It doesn't matter what the results are. It doesn't have to be something big. Even the smallest gesture can make a difference in someone's day and cause a ripple effect.

Mother Teresa said, "Do small things with great love." Our small daily actions -- a smile, a meal, a cup of coffee -- are how we can live out our faith by showing our human connection and God's love.

Need some ideas to get started? Check out this list from Steve Sjogram (servecoach.com) for some inspiration.

The only guideline to the challenge is to complete your chosen action by Ash Wednesday (February 26).

I'm excited to see and hear how you choose to shine your light! Please email me about your experience -- I'll be curious to hear what led you to your idea and how you felt about the experience
