Come join us for the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas' annual Christian Formation Workhop on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Frisco.  Our guest speaker this year is The Rev. Dr. Chip Prehn. A parish priest for twelve years, Dr. Prehn was powerfully called to school work in 1996.  Since then, Prehn has been a school chaplain three times (four if you count a one hour per week gig at St Philip's School, Dallas) and a headmaster twice.  He will lead a both a keynote address and a breakout session.

    (1) Keynote Address: Introducing William Augustus Muhlenberg (1796-1877), Christian Educator Par Excellence.  In 1828, Muhlenberg attempted the true and practical application of Christianity to education.  The result was two model schools on Long Island, the training of disciples, and the "Church school movement" resulting in some of the best schools in the United States.  The history of Muhlenberg's movement was Father Prehn's research topic at the University of Virginia, where he earned the PhD degree.

    (2) Workshop: Instructional Practices in the Parish Church: Checklist and Inventory.  Dr. Prehn will pass out a list of what are regarded as state-of-the-art classroom instructional practices and workshop participants will have an open discussion of the list.  What works in the parish setting?  What does not work?  What do Christian educators need to do to improve their pedagogy?  Father Prehn will lead but this is meant to be a lively discussion among the workshop participants.

We will have other breakout sessions as well as sample 2020 VBS Kits, and each parish in attendance can sign up for a free VBS kit provided by the Diocese.
