Webinar to understand refugee anxiety
A webinar on refugee and immigrant anxiety mid-September aims to help participants identify and minister to the emotional needs of the people they assist.
Refugees and Immigrants: Examining Anxiety will shed light on the struggles faced by those fleeing their home countries to take refuge in the United States. The discussion focuses on teaching participants to:
1. Understand aspects of the emotional process inside refugee families and communities
2. Identify emotional and spiritual problems within these systems
3. Implement Christ-centered ways to help refugees resolve their emotional problems
The webinar will be led by Gateway of Grace Executive Director Samira Izadi Page.
“Thousands of immigrants and refugees live in the DFW metroplex; thousands more arrive every year,” Izadi Page said. “These people deal with unimaginable amounts of daily stress and anxiety – everything from where their next meal will come from to, in some cases, whether they will be able to communicate in English enough to ask for the things they need.
“It is our job as Christians to tend to their emotional needs,” she said. “As such, it’s our responsibility to understand those needs as best we can – to first learn about the factors that lead to that anxiety so we know how to go about addressing it and helping effectively. That’s what this seminar is all about.”
