World Refugee Day

06.20.16 | by Samira Izadi Page

Today is World Refugee Day, a day to recognize and respond to the needs of people all over the world who fled their country because of persecution and war. Did you know that what refugees seek first and foremost is safety and shelter? It's not a better life of material wealth they seek, but simply to save their lives and the lives of their family. Unfortunately, thousands this year alone, lost their lives in pursuit of saving it. Those who reach safety, do so at the cost of t...heir earthly possessions, accomplishments, titles and human dignity. Most often, it's their own government that commits these atrocities, and done so in the name of religion. I recently asked a refugee, who was an educator for more than 30 years in his country and lost everything, if he was happy here. He said, "Yes. I am happy because there is no bombing and my family is safe - life is good." Rev. 22:2 teaches us that there is provision for healing of the nations in the Kingdom of God. Regardless of our Christian persuasions, the Holy Spirit compels us to unite as one because God the Father's heart for the refugee and the stranger is clearly and repeatedly revealed in the Holy Scriptures. Will you join Gateway of Grace in being an instrument of God to bring healing to refugees in the name of Christ? Visit our website for various opportunities to help refugees.
