Young Adult and Campus Ministries

08.17.16

AUGUST 21, 2016 – FOURTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST (C): YOUNG ADULT AND CAMPUS MINISTRIES

Leaving for college, work, or post-high school opportunities can be an adventure, leaving behind family, friends, and established routines for new experiences. For many young people, it also means leaving behind important spiritual support networks.

“The first few months away from home are a time of extraordinary transition,” said the Rev. Shannon Kelly, Missioner for Young Adult and Campus Ministries. “It’s a time when young adults engage new freedom and opportunities to make decisions that will shape their post-high school experience.”

“Connecting with a campus ministry or young adult ministry can help students develop new friendships, connect with older students who can help them navigate campus life, and develop spiritual companions and networks that will guide and support them through this transformative period of their lives,” added Kelly.

The Episcopal Church offers young adult and campus ministries on nearly 200 college campuses across the United States. If your faith community supports a young adult and/or campus ministry that is not represented on this map, please submit your information here: http://www.episcopalchurch.org/form/young-adult-and- campus-ministry-information.

“These ministries bring the Jesus Movement to life on university campuses, tribal colleges, community colleges, young adult ministries and more,” concluded Kelly. “If you or someone you know is setting off on a new adventure this fall, check the map to find a young adult or campus ministry in the area.”

    Prayer for Schools and Colleges

O Eternal God, bless all schools, colleges, and universities [and especially _______], that they may be lively centers for sound learning, new discovery, and the pursuit of wisdom; and grant that those who teach and those who learn may find you to be the source of all truth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
(Book of Common Prayer, p. 824)

    Prayer for Young Persons

God our Father, you see your children growing up in an unsteady and confusing world: Show them that your ways give more life than the ways of the world, and that following you is better than chasing after selfish goals. Help them to take failure, not as a measure of their worth, but as a chance for a new start. Give them strength to hold their faith in you, and to keep alive their joy in your creation; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
(Book of Common Prayer, p. 829)
